School Justice Project is pleased to honor
Brian Whittaker
at this year's event.

Brian Whittaker is a zealous advocate for civil rights. His dedication and staunch advocacy have inspired SJP staff since 2014, when he began working with SJP on behalf of a homeless student who had been deprived of a free appropriate public education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. SJP is pleased to honor him at the 2017 Fundraiser.

As a litigation associate within Nixon Peabody LLP’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, Brian did not have any familiarity with special education law or navigating D.C.'s juvenile justice and education systems.  Brian’s early mastery of the local and federal law and agency practice demonstrated his deep commitment to the client and the importance of this work. Brian has spent hundreds of hours on this case, fighting to get his client relief and change the system for the thousands of court-involved students with disabilities who fall through the cracks each year.
