SJP Staff Attend Leadership Development Training 11.17.25
In November, SJP's current and former fellows attended the Equal Justice Works (EJW) Leadership Development Training in Washington, DC. Equal Justice Works is a nonprofit organization that brings together an extensive network of law students, lawyers, advocates, legal services organizations, and supporters to promote a lifelong commitment to public service and equal justice. SJP is proud to count many past EJW fellows among its staff and to serve as a host organization for the Design-Your-Own Fellowship Program. Most recently, in 2023, SJP hosted Katie Martinez who remained at SJP in the role of Staff Attorney & Community Outreach Lead following the conclusion of her fellowship. SJP is also currently hosting Irene Ameena, who began her fellowship in September 2025.
This month, both Katie and Irene attended Leadership Development Training, the annual conference organized by Equal Justice Works. This year's focus was "Movement Building: Power, Purpose & Public Service in Challenging Times." Irene had the opportunity to attend sessions designed to provide practical tools for coalition-building, narrative change, and policy advocacy rooted in movement lawyering. Katie served as an alumni facilitator, leading two Community Collaboration Sessions focused on Education Advocacy. In these sessions, fellows from all around the country shared project milestones and offered creative solutions to unforeseen obstacles. Both Katie and Irene left the conference feeling energized, inspired, and ready to serve SJP's clients!
